Position Description:    

The School of Business at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor In-Residence, with primary responsibilities in teaching, service, and outreach at the University’s Storrs campus in the area of business writing and communication to begin in Fall 2019.

The successful candidate will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective instruction primarily at the undergraduate level, to the development of innovative courses, and to the mentoring of students in their professional development. In addition, individuals will be expected to contribute to scholarship and outreach targeted at the professional community so as to maintain faculty qualifications under AACSB guidelines. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods; contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • For the rank of Instructor In-Residence: candidates must possess a master’s degree in English, Business Communication, or a closely related field. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
  • For the rank of Assistant Professor In-Residence: candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in English, Business Communication, or a closely related field. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
  • Demonstrated excellence or strong potential in teaching relevant courses.
  • A deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven successful teaching experience in business writing and/or professional communication.
  • Industry experience in professional writing and/or communication to enhance teaching.
  • If advanced degree is in English, Composition and Rhetoric specialization preferred.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) experience preferred.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, nine-month, end-date non-tenure track position with the possibility of annual reappointment, contingent upon positive annual reviews and program funding, and may lead to a multi-year appointment. The anticipated start date is August 23, 2019. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the University’s Storrs campus with the possibility of assignment at other regional campuses. Salary and position level will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
