The Department of Statistics at the University of Connecticut, invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Residence. The position is suitable for candidates who wish to pursue a career with an emphasis on teaching and continued growth in that direction. The position is subject to budgetary approval.

The Department is a highly active center of teaching, research, and service with local, national, and international presence.  It is a founding member of the New England Statistical Society, for which it houses the administration. The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills and a strong commitment to instruction, advising, and mentoring. The incumbent will teach introductory statistics courses, and a selection from courses such as Statistical Methods, Analysis of Experiments, and Mathematical Statistics.


A Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, or data science; a superior record of teaching undergraduate courses, both methodological and applied; experience with educational technologies like blackboard and online homework systems; teaching and coordinating large lectures.


A record of innovative classroom strategies; coordination of TAs; experience with grant applications for pedagogical activities; involvement in online or flipped courses.


This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position that has the possibility of leading to a multi-year contract. Normal duties include a teaching load of six courses per year, or the equivalent, and an advising load shared with the Department’s Undergraduate Program Director.   The position has an anticipated start date of August 23, 2019.  The successful candidate’s initial academic appointment will be at the Stamford campus.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
