Position

The MIT Music and Theater Arts Section is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor (tenure track) who is an actively performing instrumental soloist and/or chamber musician with an established and growing national/international reputation, as well as an enthusiasm and proven ability to expertly teach in the Western art music tradition.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate music performance in individualized studio lessons, chamber music coaching, performance seminars, beginning-of-term auditioning, and end-of-term evaluations, and Section needs; service to the Section and Institute; maintaining a substantive and documented profile in the field of music performance. The teaching load for this position is three courses per academic year. 

Qualifications

Master's Degree. Extensive experience (2 years minimum) working with string players and pianist at the university or conservatory level is essential. Sub-specialties in other areas of music-making or scholarship  (i.e., conducting, composition, diverse performance traditions, research in musicology or theory) will be taken into consideration, but are not required (MTA encourages faculty to teach other subject areas within the discipline).

Starting Date: July 1, 2020
