The Programs in Deaf Studies at Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Development invites applications for a one-year, temporary ASL Instructor with a start date of September 1st, 2019. The Instructor will be responsible for teaching a range of ASL courses to undergraduate and graduate students.


The Programs in Deaf Studies are built on the notion that all Deaf/HH children deserve access to ASL and English through a bilingual approach to Deaf Education.  We offer an undergraduate major and minor in Deaf Studies, a master’s degree in Deaf Education with preparation for teaching licensure, as well as masters and doctoral programs in Language and Literacy Education with an emphasis in ASL and Deaf Studies.


Our diverse faculty is comprised of Deaf, hearing, and CODA individuals. All of our coursework is taught in ASL. Faculty engage in teaching, research, and partnerships with schools and with the Deaf community. The Programs in Deaf Studies also hosts events for students and for the broader community throughout the year.



The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in ASL Instruction or a related field.  Candidates must be fluent in American Sign Language. Responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester in ASL Levels 1-4.
