The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) (http://ist.psu.edu) at The Pennsylvania State University at University Park, Pennsylvania invites applications for Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies (ADUGS); although the position is a full-time administrative job, the ADUGS will also be appointed as Full or Associate Professor, with tenure home in IST. In this regard, candidates for Associate Professor should have a strong track record of research, publication, and funding; those for Full Professor should have a track record of research, publication, and funding that distinguishes them, nationally or internationally, as leaders in their respective area. We seek exceptional candidates who are currently tenured faculty members or administrators in a research university with a strong commitment for undergraduate education. The candidates should have experience as an effective instructor of undergraduate and/or graduate courses; evidence of effectiveness as a graduate and/or undergraduate adviser; evidence of leadership in curriculum evaluation, refinement and development; experience in online delivery of courses at all levels as well as leadership in recruiting and developing instructors for online education; a record of collaboration with both tenure-line and fixed-term faculty members in support of an institutional vision; and an established record of research. We particularly invite candidates whose experience connects to several current themes in our education mission: recent and ongoing rapid growth in both enrollments and new programs; pervasive technology-mediated innovation in course design, implementation and evaluation; interdisciplinary content and connections across courses; expansion of undergraduate research opportunities; and recruitment and support for a diverse student population. The ADUGS will assume a broad range of responsibilities, including: strengthen undergraduate and graduate programs by maintaining close ties with relevant University Offices and facilitating communication and collaboration across programs within the college, and across colleges and campuses; coordinate periodic assessment of College education programs, and oversee development and implementation of curricular reforms; represent IST on committees, councils and task forces addressing issues and policies in undergraduate and graduate studies; oversee processes for ensuring academic and research integrity for both graduate and undergraduate students; and maintain an appropriate personal record of teaching and research in relevant areas of expertise given administrative responsibilities. Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. or a terminal degree in a field relevant to our interdisciplinary faculty (including information science, computer science, engineering, psychology, sociology, and information systems) and must pass a background check.
