Postdoctoral Associate in Simulating Wind Climates and Wind Turbine Operating Conditions

Position Description and Responsibilities:

Applications are sought for a Post Doctoral Associate to participate in a project designed to characterize extreme wind events of relevance to the wind energy and other industries, and assess the ability of the WRF model, when applied at high resolution, to characterize those events.

The selected applicant will conduct numerical modeling using WRF and potentially MPAS. They will also participate in diagnostic evaluation of model performance relative to in situ and remote sensing observations and reanalysis products and perform sensitivity analyses to characterize differential credibility as a function of model formulation.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant will hold a PhD in atmospheric science, engineering or related subject. Experience with WRF is essential. Familiarity with statistics and particularly geospatial analysis of large data sets, high-performance computing environments and programming in Fortran and Matlab is desirable.

The preferred start date is 16th January 2020 and the initial appointment will be for 1 year with the possibility of renewal.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Specific responsibilities (and approximate effort allocation) include:
(50%) Conduct numerical simulations.
(20%) Conduct model performance analyses using remote sensing and in situ observations and reanalysis products
(10%) Archive model output and remote sensing data using best-practice data provenance procedures
(20%) Develop publication-quality research manuscripts
