Job Title: Racial Healing Program Director & Research Scholar
Department: Center for Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation at Duke University 

This is a term-limited position.

Occupational Summary:
The Racial Healing Program Director for the Center for Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT Center) reports to the Center Director and works closely with the Associate Directors. This individual is responsible for developing, leading, and managing all aspects of the TRHT Center’s Racial Healing program, including Rx Racial Healing Circles and the National Day of Racial Healing. As a Research Scholar, the Program Director brings extensive knowledge of and experience with higher education, scholarly research, and community engagement. Responsibilities include analyzing program impact and conducting landscape analysis to help plan, assess, and advance the work of the Center. 

Work Performed: 
Develop and implement Rx Racial Healing Circles protocol, procedures, and operating policies in relation to the evidence, engagement, and education goals of the TRHT Center. 

Lead and manage the recruitment and training of new Rx Racial Healing Circle practitioners including webinar/video orientation, workshops, and the development of a guidebook of best practices and prompts. 

Manage the implementation of Rx Racial Healing Circles including advising practitioners on script development, co-curation and co-facilitation. 

Coordinate and manage assignment of Rx Racial Healing Circle practitioners and the recruitment and webinar/video orientation of Rx Racial Healing Circle participants. 

Oversee the development of content for advertising, marketing, social media, digital stories and testimonials pertaining to Rx Racial Healing Circles for the TRHT Center. 

Lead the conceptualization and implementation of evaluation and assessment protocols for Rx Racial Healing Circles to provide appropriate evaluation reports to the Center sponsors and build the evidence base of impact for further acceptance and scaling of Rx Racial Healing Circle practice. Liaise with internal Duke resources and external consultants in this area. 

Analyze, propose, construct, and revise best practices for implementing Rx Racial Healing Circle activities on campus and in the community utilizing findings from applied research conducted within and external to the TRHT Center. 

Become a respected Rx Racial Healing Circle practitioner by developing and maintaining the requisite knowledge, skills, and track record. Stay abreast of related or complementary circles methods and practices, e.g., restorative talking circles. 

Lead the planning and implementation of the TRHT Center’s annual activities for the National Day of Racial Healing. 

Develop and implement the strategic plan for the Racial Healing Program of the TRHT Center in collaboration with the Center Director and Associate Directors.

Provide strategic, tactical and operational advice on aspects of the development of the TRHT Center’s Racial Healing program on campus and in the community. 

Represent the TRHT Center in communications and interactions on the Racial Healing program with key campus and community constituencies. Become a thought leader in the TRHT movement at Duke, in Durham, and nationally. 

Maintain interface with all TRHT Center cores (evidence, engagement, and education). 

Conduct analysis, research, and evidence synthesis to address specific strategic and policy questions related to the Racial Healing Program through reviewing literature, gathering relevant supporting data, and developing rich artifacts in terms of graphics, tables, and qualitative narrative artifacts. 

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. 

Required Qualifications at this Level: 

Education/Training: Work requires communication, analytical, and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a graduate degree. e.g. MPH, JD, PhD 

Experience: At least ten years of applicable experience or any other equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience 

Preferred experience in searching for, appraising, and synthesizing evidence to support programmatic applied research and evaluation 

Skills: 
Ability to provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting standards and monitoring performance 

Skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems 

Skills evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming an action plan

Strong written and oral communication skills to include translating interdisciplinary work to various audiences 

Careful attention to detail 

Excellent time management and organizational skills Flexibility and ability to work on multiple initiatives simultaneously 

Success as a sole contributor and as a member of cross-functional teams Ability to work with diverse groups of people 

Ability to lead group workshops, classes, and panels, as well as individual mentoring and training sessions 

Motivated, enthusiastic, customer service-oriented attitude 

Familiarity with Duke and Durham including local community organizations 

Computer proficiency required. Capable of working with email, databases, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Dropbox, Box, GoogleDocs, Doodle Poll, Microsoft Publisher, and other similar research tools 

Training and experience in quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed method research, including instrument design and proficiency with software for data management and analysis (e.g. SPSS, NVivo, Dedoose) 

Fluency with social media platforms and web conferencing tools (e.g. Skype, Adobe Connect, WebEx, GoToMeeting, etc.) 

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with faculty and senior administrators in an academic setting 

Demonstrated capability and experience working with diverse communities and organizations in multiple sectors 

Demonstrated emotional intelligence, peacemaking and/or mediation skills
