The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Liverpool invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in theoretical physics.  This position will be part of the project "New Frontiers of Lattice Field Theory" funded by UK Research & Innovation and led by Dr David Schaich.

Applicants must have (by the starting date) a PhD in theoretical physics or a closely related subject, and a record of research excellence in lattice field theory or quantum simulation.  The planned focus of this role within the "New Frontiers of Lattice Field Theory" project is to research quantum simulation for lattice field theory, making experience and interest in quantum simulation and computation valuable.  Teaching will not be required, and opportunities will be available to develop independent research.

The application deadline is 6 December.  The post is initially available for 2 years, with possible extension for an additional year upon mutual agreement.  The preferred start date is by 1 May 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.  For inquiries about this position, please contact David Schaich (
