The Quantum and Nonlinear Optoelectronics Group, led by Professor David Burghoff at Notre Dame, is rapidly expanding and currently hiring new Ph.D. students. The group uses quantum and nonlinear optics to study the interaction of light and matter, and they then exploit these interactions to make devices that interact with the world in extraordinary new ways. They use nanoscale engineering to push beyond the limits of conventional electronics and photonics, and they seek to both perform basic science and use newly-discovered phenomena to create devices that address the world’s key challenges.

About the PI: Dr. Burghoff began as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Notre Dame in 2018. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his master’s from MIT, and his bachelor’s from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His awards include the AFOSR Young Investigator Program (YIP) award, MIT’s Best Electrical Engineering Ph.D. Thesis, and the Intelligence Community Postdoctoral Fellowship.
