The School of Integrative Plant Science (SIPS) at Cornell University invites applicants for a full-time Teaching Postdoctoral Associate with interest in developing skills and experience in university teaching and as part of a Hemp Science Masters of Professional Studies (MPS) program. The postdoc will be responsible for developing and teaching a course in hemp production systems and will aid in a laboratory course in hemp processing along with other courses that are part of the curriculum. The postdoc will also work with the Hemp Science team to develop online certificate courses. This position will work closely with Cornell faculty researching hemp and will interact with faculty, students, hemp growers, and processors in New York. SIPS has a large and growing active learning community and the person in this position will have the opportunity to learn active learning practices, assess impacts of active learning methods, and participate in discipline-based education research.

The College and SIPS have developed other MPS programs (https://cals.cornell.edu/mps/ ) that may provide synergies with the Hemp Science program.

The postdoc will play a key role in developing this new MPS program including: designing and teaching a new course in hemp production, advising students, working with faculty and business partners to develop capstone projects for MPS students, and developing an online certificate program for hemp production. The person in this position will also be part of the Hemp Science leadership team as well as the larger hemp science community at Cornell.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a life science discipline, with some formal training in education. 
  • Experience and interest in hemp production and hemp science is necessary
  • Should have excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, team building and collaboration skills.

Division of Time

  • 55% Course design
  • 35% Instruction
  • 10% Student Advising

Terms of Appointment:

This is a 1-year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The anticipated start date for the appointment is approximately January 1, 2020 (start date is negotiable) and applications will be reviewed starting on November 15, 2019.
