Senior Policy Fellow Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy

Position Summary The Robert J. Margolis, MD, Center for Health Policy at Duke University has an opening for a Senior Policy Fellow. The work site for this position will be the Duke-Margolis office in Washington, DC, with an expectation of 10% travel.

In this Senior Policy Fellow role, your primary responsibility is to provide senior-level expertise and support to Duke-Margolis executive leaders, faculty, and staff in the following areas: (1) strategic plan communication and outreach, (2) development strategy and outreach, and (3) strategic guidance in development and execution of the Duke-Margolis communications plan. You will provide advisory support to enhance understanding, public resonance, and impact of the Center’s strategic plan and development strategy. You will provide expertise in media training/awareness and collaborate with the Center’s Director of Communications to craft and refine the Center’s communications strategy. You will also collaborate with Duke-Margolis colleagues, our Advisory Board, and other external stakeholders to further the mission of the Center. This is a part-time (8 hour per week) position. The potential exists for an increased number of hours dependent upon receipt of funded project awards to which you would contribute topic expertise.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Plan Communication and Outreach Guidance • Advise Duke-Margolis leadership on strategic plan communication and outreach to audiences that include Duke University leadership; Center faculty, staff, and students; our Advisory Board; and external stakeholders. • Provide guidance regarding the creation of dissemination products related to the strategic plan to target diverse audiences.

Development Strategy and Outreach Guidance • Advise Center senior leadership and the Senior Program Director for Strategic Initiatives on development strategy and outreach. • Provide guidance regarding the creation of dissemination products related to the development action plan.

Center Communication Strategy Guidance • Advise Center senior leadership, including the Director of Communications, on the Center’s communication strategy. Target audiences include: University leadership; Center faculty, staff, and students; our Advisory Board; existing and potential funders; and external stakeholders. • Provide guidance regarding the creation of dissemination products related to the Center’s communication strategy.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein as directed.   Education/Experience Requirements:  Educational attainment and work experience requirements to be met by one of the following: o Advanced professional degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD, JD, MD) in a relevant field and at least ten years of relevant work experience OR o Master’s degree in health policy, health economics, public health, or other relevant field and a minimum fifteen years of relevant work experience OR o Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum twenty years of relevant work experience.  Significant senior or executive-level experience in a leadership capacity.  Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced project office with varied responsibilities. Proven competence in managing research projects. A track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals a plus. Knowledge/Skills Requirements:  Excellent organizational and communications skills required.  Ability to coordinate a variety of tasks simultaneously and provide senior-level advisement across multiple portfolios effectively.  Must have the ability to exercise good judgement and initiative.  Must be able to function independently and have experience collaborating with diverse teams.  Must have strong research, writing, and analytical skills.  Specialized experience in the areas of health policy research including health care delivery transformation and biomedical innovation; expertise in health policy communication and strategy preferred.  Availability to travel.
