Position Description:    

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computational Sensing, and Signal Processing, broadly defined. Under exceptional circumstances, more experienced senior candidates may be considered. Specific areas of emphasis include, but are not limited to: Artificial Intelligence (AI): theory of machine learning, deep learning, AI theory & algorithms, causal Inference, AI for health and medicine, AI for education and natural language processing. Autonomous Sensors and Systems: computer vision, augmented reality, virtual reality, robotics, robotic surgery, AI with sensors, intelligent sensing systems, autonomous sensing and systems, autonomous driving, wireless sensing/imaging. Quantum Computing (QC): quantum information theory, quantum algorithms, quantum computing systems.

The department has a vibrant research program in novel, leading-edge research areas, has a strong culture of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research with great national and international visibility, and is ranked #1 nationally in faculty productivity. Several faculty have strong national and international collaborations, as well as collaborative relationships in the adjacent Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest medical center complex and home to a number of top-tier medical research institutions. The successful applicant will be required to teach undergraduate courses and build a successful research program.
