Cornell Law School invites applications for a full-time lecturer position commencing in the 2020-2021 academic year to teach two sections of the Principles of American Legal Writing course and one section of the Professional Responsibility course for our Masters of Law (LLM) students.

The Principles of American Legal Writing course provides foreign-trained lawyers with an introduction to the American legal system and essential principles of legal writing, analysis, and legal research skills in the United States. Students are afforded an opportunity to practice some of the forms of writing common to American legal practice by drafting documents such as memoranda and briefs in the context of representing hypothetical clients.

The Professional Responsibility course explores ethical issues relating to the legal profession. It will help prepare students for the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE), investigate the ways in which one’s professional responsibilities might conflict with one’s personal obligations or self-interest, and consider the societal implications of the regulatory regime-governing lawyers.

The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial three-year term. Reappointment for subsequent three-year terms will be based on performance. Benefits are competitive and include a budget for research and travel.

The Law School especially welcomes applications from individuals whose background and experience will contribute to the diversity of the faculty.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a JD or equivalent law degree, excellent academic credentials, a strong writing background, and substantial legal-practice experience (a minimum of three years is strongly preferred). Teaching experience is also preferred.

To apply: Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, diversity statement, law-school transcript, the names of three references, and two writing samples. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, January 15, 2020.
