The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University invites applications for an appointment as fulltime Research Scientist. Applicants must have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and have demonstrated research expertise and experience in: design, implementation, and simulation of computational models of peripheral nerve stimulation and block, including finite element methods, biophysically-realistic nerve fiber modeling, and global optimization techniques; design, conduct, and analysis of in vivo electrophysiological experiments to stimulate and record from the vagus nerve; knowledge of current devices and research in vagus nerve stimulation (VNS). The successful applicant will be expected to advance computational modeling of VNS, conduct experimental studies to characterize vagal responses to electrical signals, collaborate with other lab members, achieve quarterly milestones, prepare detailed progress reports, prepare results for presentation and publication, interact with NIH Program Officers, and initiate and maintain collaborative activities with other research groups. Salary ranges from $60,000 to $90,000, commensurate with years of relevant experience.
