Description:


The School of Communication at The Ohio State University invites applicants for an assistant professor position to teach in the area of user experience (UX) and related topics, including human-computer interaction, usability testing and evaluation, video games, social media, and mobile communication. Candidates with professional experience related to UX (e.g., through relevant employment or positions involved with design, development, and/or user testing) are strongly encouraged to apply. Ability to teach courses related to video games and/or social media strongly preferred. Experience with teaching online courses, or the willingness to do so, is a plus.


The School of Communication (http://comm.osu.edu/) is consistently ranked among the top programs in the field, and our faculty is committed to making original and substantively important contributions to empirical, social scientific research on communication processes, basic or applied. A demonstrated record of publications showing productivity and  journal placement promising success in one of the most research productive Communication programs in the world is essential. We seek colleagues who will help us continue this tradition and can envision research projects and courses that will be attractive to graduate and undergraduate students within the major as well as speak to the interests and needs of non-majors.


Qualifications:


Candidates must be in communication or a closely related social science field. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. or be on schedule to earn the Ph.D. prior to August 2020. If the degree requirement is not met, the appointment will be as an instructor for up to one academic year. Applicants should have a demonstrated record of publication in high-quality peer-reviewed journals as well as evidence of effective teaching. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
