The
Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education and Human
Ecology at The Ohio State University invites applications for a full-time
(9-month) tenure-track position in Science Education. The appointment is effective August 15, 2020. Application reviews begin January
13, 2020, and continue until the position is filled.
The successful candidate is expected to (i) conduct an
active, focused, and externally-funded research program yielding published
peer-reviewed scholarship in reputable outlets; (ii) teach graduate and
undergraduate courses using research-based instructional practices that support
the success of all students; (iii) mentor master’s and doctoral students; (iv) participate
in department, college, university and professional service activities; and (v)
support the continued development of an equitable and inclusive learning
environment for all students.
Required Qualifications - An earned doctorate in science
education or a closely related field, with a focus in life sciences
- A minimum of a B.S. degree in life
sciences
- Evidence that the candidate can build a
sustainable, external-funded research program that generates high-quality
publications
- Evidence of effective teaching in life
sciences at the 8-12 or college level
- Experience using technology and media
in formal and informal learning environments
Preferred Qualifications - Strong concentration of graduate work
in the area of life sciences
- Experience working with diverse student
and teacher populations in urban, rural or high-needs schools
- Experience teaching life sciences at
the secondary level
- Experience
creating professional development and outreach programs in 7-12 science education
- Experience teaching methods and content
courses in life sciences at the secondary teacher preparation level
DEPARTMENT OF TEACHING AND LEARNING: The Department has a faculty
of 51 productive members with a broad range of interests and is organized into
8 areas of study (Multicultural and Equity Studies; STEM Education; LCYA;
Reading and Literacy in Early and Middle Childhood; Language, Education and
Society; Foreign, Second and Multilingual Language Education; Adolescent,
Post-secondary and Community Literacies; and Dramatic and Arts-Based Research,
Teaching and Learning). Degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s and
doctoral levels are offered across these 8 areas, along with several
endorsements, licensure-only, and certificate programs. The Department of
