The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a part time (60%) Senior Extension Associate in the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution in the Extension/Outreach Division.

The position of Senior Extension Associate within the Scheinman Institute is responsible for developing and delivering professional educational programs for labor and management leaders.  The scope of work will include a range of training and technical assistance services focused on growing Scheinman Institute programs and projects in labor relations and labor-management relations, particularly in public education and other public sector organizations, including creating opportunities for new on-site custom program clients.

Senior Extension Associate is a part-time 60% effort, non-tenure track, academic term position with an initial appointment from January 1, 2020 through December 31, 2022.  The position may be reappointed on the basis of recommendations by the Academic Director and Associate Dean as well as available funding and work.  This position will report to the Director of the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate is experienced in all aspects of labor-management relations as a practitioner and/or educator.  The candidate should also demonstrate the ability for creating education/training programs for both union and management practitioners. Additional experience desired.

  • Master’s degree in related subject matter expertise (labor relations, curriculum design, dispute resolution, public education) and/or some combination of related degree/formal training and/or related professional work
  • Demonstrated experience developing educational programs and providing instruction  for labor and management professionals, particularly in  unions
  • Minimum of six to eight years teaching related courses, conducting training to relevant target audience, and/or conducting research in the thematic content area.
  • Possess sufficient knowledge of training/learning design, curriculum development, and adult learning pedagogy
  • Demonstrated leadership skills as a self-starter
  • Strong writing skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated relevant experience of  more than 10 years working at a senior level in a corporate, union, or academic setting in public sector labor related positions
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large projects, designing and managing complex dispute resolution or labor relations systems
  • Experience with distance learning methods

Note: Scheinman Institute programs are delivered at client sites throughout North America, at our conference center in New York City, as well as through distance learning. There will be moderate travel required for this job.
