Programming Languages and Cybersecurity

The University of Oregon’s Computer and Information Science Department (CIS) invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Programming Languages (PL), to begin in fall 2020. We seek candidates specializing in PL approaches to Cybersecurity; candidates should have a strong formal background in programming languages/logic and have an interest in applying his/her theoretical investigations to the issues of security, privacy, and reliability. Competitive applicants will be capable of outstanding research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. We are especially interested in scholars who will enhance the department’s existing strengths in programming languages and cybersecurity.

CIS is well-known for its programming language research, especially through hosting the Oregon Programming Language Summer School; this event attracts ~100 students and ~10 top programming language researchers each summer. (https://www.cs.uoregon.edu/research/summerschool/archives.html).

CIS is home to the UO Center for Cybersecurity and Privacy (https://ccsp.uoregon.edu/). UO is also a member of the Ripple University Blockchain Research Initiative that promotes research in blockchain, cryptocurrency, and cybersecurity.

We are a diverse and growing department with strengths in data science, high-performance computing, and networking and distributed systems. The department is looking to grow its research portfolio in programming languages and cybersecurity. We particularly welcome applications from scholars who are from populations historically underrepresented in the academy, and/or who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Requirements Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field in hand by time of appointment. Strong research record in the application of programming languages to cybersecurity.

Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated commitment and contribution to institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion.
