The University of Virginia's Evolutionary Ecology & Genetics Lab, under the direction of Dr. Alan O. Bergland, seeks applicants for a Research Scientist position. The position will involve working on the evolutionary genetics of sexual dynamics in the model cyclic parthenogen, Daphnia pulex. This position will offer the opportunity to conduct laboratory experiments, data-analysis, and field work while conducting research examining the generation and stability of polymorphism associated with sexual dynamics in the wild.

The Research Scientist will also provide leadership in the area of evolutionary genetics by assisting in the training of graduate and undergraduate students, help maintain a collegial lab culture, maintain detailed scientific records of their work, and help keep laboratory safety regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline is required by the appointment start date. Three years of post-doctoral experience is required. Ability to set-up and maintain large experiments using Daphnia required. Strong writing ability is required. The qualified candidate must also have the capacity to generate and analyze high-throughput sequencing libraries. Experience managing student researchers is preferred.
