Position Summary - Instructor (FTE), Non-Regular Rank, reports to the Chair of Health, Wellness and Physical Education with secondary reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) for the department.

Essential Functions: • Teach activity and/or lecture courses with a concentration in Sports, Health, Fitness, and other related fields. Activity courses may include Aquatics, Weight Training, Physical Fitness, or various ball and racquet sports classes. Lecture courses may include topics in Sports or Health Studies. • Assist the department in conducting periodic pedagogical assessments to evaluate learning outcomes and participant satisfaction. • Be actively involved in curriculum development. • Continued development of teaching skills. • Contribute to the growth of the department and profession through appropriate service activities and research or outreach opportunities. • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours. • Be active professionally in presentations, speaking engagements, and involvement in professional associations. • Represent the department in matters that are referred to the Chair for decision or approval. • Represent the department and/or university on selected or requested committees. • Build strong relationships within the department and with other campus units and leaders. • Represent the interests of the department to audiences both inside and outside the university. • Seek the advice of members of the department, individually or as a group, or of advisory committees that the chair may appoint. • Consult with staff employees when appropriate in the development of administrative policies and on decisions that directly affect staff employees.

Policy-making and/or interpretation: Works closely with University members to ensure University academic policies are implemented within the Department of Recreation and Physical Education.

Program Direction and Development: Contribute to the development of a shared vision that supports the particular goals of HWPE and the broader goals of the Department of Recreation and Physical Education, the Athletic Department and the University.

Supervision Received: Day-to-day functions are accomplished with minimal guidance or supervision in accordance with established policies and directives. Overall guidance is accomplished through supervisory conferences setting broad goals and objectives.

Supervision Exercised: May include supervising full and part-time staff and student employees.

Level of Public Contact: Communicates with a wide variety of University staff, faculty, and students. Communicates as directed with the public.

Monetary Responsibility: Follows University protocol for cash handling. Oversees expenditures, maintains accurate records and ensuring sound fiscal policies and procedures.

Statement of Responsibility for Confidential Data: Collects and secures confidential information regarding students, staff, and faculty. Maintains employee information and files in confidential manner.

Marginal Functions of the Job: Performs other work-related duties as directed. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

Required: Earned Master’s Degree in a related field with 2 years teaching experience at the college/university level, or equivalent pedagogical activities, working knowledge of principles and practices of curriculum, instruction, and faculty development. Ability to teach HWPE activity and lecture, as assigned, with a concentration in Sports, Health, Fitness, and other related fields. Experience in curriculum development and pedagogical assessments to evaluate learning outcomes and participant satisfaction.

Preferred: Earned Doctorate (ABD considered) in a related field with 2 years teaching experience at the college/university level, or equivalent pedagogical activities, working knowledge of principles and practices of curriculum, instruction, and faculty development. Ability to teach HWPE activity and lecture, as assigned, with a concentration in Sports, Health, Fitness, and other related fields. Experience in curriculum development and pedagogical assessments to evaluate learning outcomes and participant satisfaction.
