Senior Policy Associate for the Duke Center on Science & Technology Policy

Advances in science and technology are transforming our lives. With this transformation come challenging policy issues that are on the front page of the news media and discussed by policymakers around the world. The Duke Center on Science & Technology Policy brings together policymakers, academics, non-profits, and industry to explore these policy challenges and translate them into innovative policy solutions.

Occupational Summary

The successful candidate will lead policy initiatives for Duke Center on Science & Technology Policy on issues ranging from political advertising to antitrust to emerging technologies.

Work Performed • Lead individual policy development projects on pressing topics in science and technology policy, such as antitrust, free expression, law enforcement and national security, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, health, and the future of work. • Develop and execute policy engagement strategy for individual policy development projects. • Contribute to development and execution of the strategic vision for the Center. • Execute Center operations and programs. • Contribute to communications strategy and execution. • Research, develop, and apply for funding opportunities. • Develop course offerings in science and technology policy. • Build relationships with the science and technology community globally, nationally, and in North Carolina.

Required Experience

This opportunity requires 5 years of experience in science and technology policy at the international, federal, regional, and/or state level. A degree higher than a master’s degree or significant technical expertise may substitute for two years of experience.

Required Skills

The successful candidate will possess knowledge and expertise in policy development in science and/or technology, management, organizational and interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills. A demonstrated track record in fundraising is preferred.

Education/Training

Master’s degree in science, engineering, law, policy or a field directly related to the position. PhD or JD preferred.
