Multiple post-doctoral positions are available working with Prof Guido Sanguinetti as part of the initial set-up of his group within SISSA's new Data Science department. The group has world leading expertise in machine learning and computational biology, in particular in the development and application of Bayesian statistical modelling to high-throughput genomic data and to stochastic models in systems biology. Please see the google scholar page for recent publications. These positions are not tied to a specific project and there is considerable scope for jointly defining the aims of the project together with the PI.

Applicants should have an excellent first degree in a computational discipline (computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering...) and a PhD (or being near completion) on a related topic, as well as excellent communication skills and a passion for interdisciplinary research. A track record of publications and some experience in machine learning are highly desirable.

Applicants should upload a CV including full list of publications, contact details for two referees (at least one academic), as well as a brief research interests statement (2 A4 pages max). Successful applicants will be appointed for an initial period of two years, with a possibility of extension after.

SISSA is a PhD School located in the beautiful north-eastern Italian seaside city of Trieste, where the Alps join the Adriatic sea. SISSA's research focus on Physics, Mathematics, Neuroscience and their interdisciplinary applications; it enjoys a very high scientific reputation, with about a quarter of its PIs having been awarded ERC grants, and strong links to top institutions internationally. Trieste offers a very high quality of life, and is close to UNESCO world heritage sites including the city of Venice, the Dolomites and the Croatian coast.
