The Stapleton labratory seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on a funded project that seeks to characterize exposure to semi volatile organic contaminants in pet dogs to understand cancer risks. The Stapleton laboratory regularly conducts research to characterize and quantify personal exposures to organic contaminants common to the indoor environment. Collaborating with environmental epidemiologists, this research is then utilized to understand health risks in the general population, with an emphasis on birth outcomes, thyroid disease and cancer.

We seek applicants with a strong interest in environmental health, and training in environmental chemistry techniques, particularly mass spectrometry. The position will involve a collaboration with researchers at the NC State Veterinary School, and potentially engagement with both human and canine research participants. Postdoctoral researchers are also expected to contribute to mentoring of junior laboratory members, laboratory meetings, and routine laboratory maintenance tasks.

The successful applicant will join a strong community of environmental health researchers at the Nicholas School of the Environment. The applicant will also have the potential to engage with other environmental health programs on campus, including the Duke Superfund center that brings together faculty from the Duke Medical Center, and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering , who work together via interdisciplinary research and training programs.
