The University of Vienna (20 faculties and centres, 178 fields of study, approx. 9.800 members of staff, about 90.000 students) seeks to fill the position as soon as possible of a University Assistant (post doc) at the Department of Communication.

Communication studies is a social science with a diversity of research methods. Its core is the indirect public communication, transmitted by mass media. The Department of Communication of the University of Vienna, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, announces a vacant University Assistant (post doc) position within the field of Advertising and Media Effects (Prof. Jörg Matthes).

Duration of employment: 6 year/s
Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade

Job Description

The position involves research, teaching load in accordance with collective bargaining agreement and administrative work. As part of their research, candidates are expected to publish and present at an international level and to participate in raising third-party funding. The preparation of a post-doctoral thesis (habilitation) is supported. Teaching at the Bachelor's and Master's levels and the supervision of students is done independently; In addition, candidates are expected to perform administrative duties and to participate in evaluation activities and quality assurance.

Profile
  • PhD in communication studies or related discipline
  • Professional competence in advertising research and/or political communication and persuasion research
  • In-depth knowledge of methods of empirical social research, especially quantitative methods and statistical data analysis
  • Research-oriented teaching experience at university-level
  • Proposals and development of research projects and third-party funding
  • (International) publishing and presentation activities
  • Participation in and organisation of scientific conferences
  • Examination activities and support of students
  • High command of written and oral language skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Knowledge of university structures and processes advantageous
