DUKE UNIVERSITY The Divinity School Faculty Position in the History of Christianity

Duke University Divinity School seeks to make a faculty appointment in the History of Christianity, focusing on the Late Medieval and Early Modern Eras (14th-17th c.), effective July 1, 2021. Applications are sought from persons with expertise in the theological, ecclesial, exegetical, cultural, ritual/liturgical, and social developments in these periods, including but not limited to the Catholic and Protestant reformations. The candidate appointed to this position will be expected to co-teach the introductory church history courses for the MDiv, MTS, MA, and/or DMin programs, as well as courses that satisfy denominational requirements in history and doctrine (e.g., Lutheran, Reformed). Additionally, the appointed candidate will be expected to teach advanced seminars in the candidate’s expertise for students in the PhD and ThD programs.

The position is open-rank. Precise faculty rank and salary will be set according to qualifications and experience. A scholarly doctorate (PhD or ThD) and a master’s degree in a theological discipline, preferably the M.Div., are required, and ordination is preferred. Women, ethnic minorities, and persons from Methodist/Wesleyan traditions are strongly encouraged to apply.
