Position Description:

*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

The Particle and Astroparticle Physics Division at the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Kernphysik (MPIK) invites applications for a postdoctoral position in experimental physics. The division has strong or leading roles in various experiments in neutrino physics (CONUS, GERDA/LEGEND200, STEREO) and direct dark matter detection experiments (XENON1T, XENONnT, DARWIN). In addition we perform various R&D activities for future experiments. For further information see http://www.mpi-hd.mpg.de/lin/

The division operates high purity germanium detectors for ultra low background screening, the GeMPIs at LNGS and others at the local underground laboratory, and carries out experiments like CONUS and LEGEND200 which use such detectors. The successful candidate will contribute to the group’s strong efforts in neutrino physics working with high purity germanium detectors at MPIK and LNGS. The task will include upgrading and optimizing of GeMPIs,  improved understanding of detector properties and applying it to the on-going experiments.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in experimental particle or nuclear physics, ideally with a solid background in particle or astro-particle physics, ideally also with some low background expertise. Applications should include a CV, a statement of research interests and a publication list. Two or three letters of reference should also be provided. Applications should be submitted by October 16, 2020.
