The Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics (SCIPP) at the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC)
invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Scholar to work under the direction of the Theory Group.

 

The Theory Group expects to have two or more postdoctoral fellow positions open for the academic year
2023-2024, renewable for up to three years. The theoretical high-energy physics group includes faculty members Wolfgang Altmannshofer, Michael Dine, Stefania Gori, Howard Haber, Stefano Profumo, and Edgar Shaghoulian, as well as several postdocs and students. The group has close ties and interactions with the local Fermi and ATLAS groups, with theorists Joel Primack and
Anthony Aguirre, and with several members of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Department at UCSC.

 

The successful candidates will be expected to conduct theoretical physics research in areas such as particle phenomenology and model building, astroparticle physics, cosmology, quantum field theory, string theory, and quantum information/quantum gravity. At least one position will be designated for work in quantum information/quantum gravity and quantum field theory.

 

RANK: Postdoctoral Scholar - Employee

 

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in Theoretical Physics, Astrophysics/Astronomy or related discipline.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of one published or submitted manuscript in theoretical
particle/high-energy physics, astrophysics, or cosmology. Substantial experience in theoretical particle/high-energy research.

 

POSITION AVAILABLE: Fall 2023. Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment.

 

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Initial appointment is for one year, with possible extension for a total of five years: with annual reappointment contingent upon positive performance review and availability of funding. For appointments within the University of California, a total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including Postdoctoral service at other institutions. Under certain circumstances, a sixth year may be considered.
