Assistant or Associate Professor Computer Science

Xavier University, a Catholic university in the Jesuit tradition located in Cincinnati, OH, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level, starting Fall 2021.  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or Computer Science Education; the degree should be completed by August 2021.

Xavier’s computer science program seeks a colleague interested in helping us embed community-engaged and socially relevant computing throughout our computer science curriculum. Candidates should have an interest in helping grow a diverse and inclusive student community while teaching a variety of courses, including their own specialty, across the undergraduate curriculum. Along with a B.A. and B.S. in computer science, Xavier’s computer science program is integral to the university’s interdisciplinary programs in cybersecurity and data science.

Xavier is committed to a diverse and inclusive environment; we welcome a broad spectrum of candidates, and particularly invite applications from women, ethnic and racial minorities, and other individuals who are under-represented in the profession. Candidates who have worked with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students and who can contribute to our mission of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences and interests. For full consideration, applicants should describe their experiences with diverse populations.

Candidates must be committed to outstanding teaching in a liberal arts tradition of active learning, the development of a sustainable scholarly research program, and service consistent with Xavier’s Mission Statement: “to educate each student intellectually, morally, and spiritually … as they cultivate lives of reflection, compassion and informed action.” We are particularly interested in candidates whose activities encourage student participation in scholarly activities.

Xavier University is one of only 361 colleges and universities to receive the 2015 Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Our new faculty member will have access to programs that provide resources of time, money, and mentoring for development of community engaged and socially relevant curriculum.

A complete application includes a cover letter; a curriculum vitae; a statement on teaching; a statement of research achievements and aspirations; graduate transcripts; and three letters of recommendation.  These items should be submitted online at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17074.   To ensure full consideration, all materials must be received before review of applications begins on November 3, 2020.
