The Department of Theoretical Physics at the Jozef Stefan Institute invites applications to fill a postdoctoral position in condensed matter theory, with a flexible starting date in 2021. The appointment is for 2 years. The successful applicant will primarily work with Dr. Zala Lenarcic, as well as with other members of the department (P. Prelovsek, L. Vidmar, J. Bonca) and at the University of Ljubljana (T. Prosen, M. Znidaric).
Research topics include strongly correlated systems out of equilibrium, open non-hermitian systems, and quantum criticality. The focus will be on systems with additional symmetries, such as integrable, many-body localized, quantum scarred Hamiltonians and other models. We will develop theoretical proposals to utilize driving in order to find new functionalities of correlated materials and to understand the fundamental properties of quantum systems when coupled to the environment.
The applicant must have a PhD in theoretical condensed matter or AMO physics obtained within the last five (5) years, a strong background in quantum many-body physics, and previous research experience (analytical and/or computational). Experience in tensor network or machine learning techniques is advantageous.
Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, publication list, and a brief description of research interests through AcademicJobsOnline. Applicants should also arrange for two (2) letters of reference to be submitted by the letter writers through AcademicJobsOnline.
The deadline for applications is November 15, 2020. Late applications will be received and considered until the position is filled.
