Postdoctoral Fellow in Ethnomusicology and Sound Studies

Duke University

Application Deadline: 2020/12/01

Duke University seeks a candidate for a one-year teaching Postdoctoral Fellowship in Ethnomusicology, beginning 1 July 2021, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. While the specific area of specialization is open, candidates should be versatile in music and cultural anthropology. Preference will be given to those whose work is sound focused and addresses structural inequities through emphases on antiracism, intersectional relations, social and environmental justice, migration, or the politics of pleasure. Concentrations might include but are not limited to such knowledge formations as anthropology of sound, ethnomusicology, or performance studies. Multimodal and experimental ethnographic work is encouraged. We look forward to supporting a scholar who works with sound in unexpected ways.

The successful candidate will teach three undergraduate courses per year, and contribute to the intellectual life of the department and of ethnomusicology on the campus. The Fellow will be located in the Department of Music or Cultural Anthropology. Ph.D. must be in hand by the start date and have been received within the past five years. The Fellowship offers a stipend of $55,000 per year.

Candidates submitting materials by December 1, 2020 will receive full consideration. Please provide a cover letter, cv, research statement, work sample (an article or a chapter; and an optional recording), two undergraduate syllabi, and contact information for three referees.
