Position Description:

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign high energy theory group anticipates having multiple postdoctoral research positions, one or more of which will be joint positions with Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The appointments are for two-year terms with possible extension to a third year. We are seeking candidates with research interests in quantum information, including (but not limited to) quantum simulations of field theories, synergies between classical lattice gauge theory simulations and quantum simulations, and quantum sensing for axion and dark photon searches. The positions commence in the Fall of 2021, but earlier start dates are possible.

The faculty working in the areas of interest are Patrick Draper, Aida El-Khadra, and Yonatan Kahn. The group has ongoing QIS collaborations with the AMO and CM groups, including Bryan Clark, Brian DeMarco, and Bryce Gadway, as well as the newly-established National Quantum Initiative quantum center SQMS at Fermilab (https://sqms.fnal.gov). The group is also active in the Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology Center (IQUIST, https://iquist.illinois.edu) and in the Department of Energy Quantum Information Science Enabled Discovery program for High Energy Physics (QuantISED).

Please note that the Illinois high energy theory group is also seeking applicants for a postdoctoral research position in the intersection of quantum gravity and QIS, for which there is a separate advertisement posted on Academic Jobs Online: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17172

The University of Illinois is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and ideas who embrace and value diversity and inclusivity (www.inclusiveillinois.illinois.edu).

For further information please contact Patrick Draper (pdraper@illinois.edu), Aida El-Khadra (axk@illinois.edu), or Yonatan Kahn (yfkahn@illinois.edu).
