The Health Justice Collaborative (HJC) at Lehigh University seeks to hire a post-doctoral fellow with interests in health equity and structural racism. Applicants with additional expertise in the following are encouraged to apply: 1) Cross-sector collaboration among healthcare, government, academic, and community-based organizations to address racial inequities in health; 2) quantitative analysis of complex data; and 3) evaluation of policies, programs, and interventions designed to counter structural racism in the organization and delivery of health care.

The applicant will be hired through the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and will work directly with Dr. Sirry Alang, Associate Professor of Sociology and Health Medicine and Society, and Chair of the Health Justice Collaborative. The HJC examines mechanisms through which structures of oppression shape health outcomes, generates evidence grounded in the experiences of oppressed peoples, and works with community partners to conduct racial justice analysis of health and health-related policies and programs. The HJC is an arm of the Institute of Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at Lehigh University. The Institute, directed by Dr. Marilisa Jiménez García, is an intellectual home for research that is grounded in the epistemologies and histories of Black, Indigenous and People of Color in the United States. The mission of the Institute is to engage in research, teaching, learning and transformative action grounded in anti-racism, anti-sexism, and anti-colonialism.

The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of faculty and students. At least 25 percent of their time will involve work with community members, context experts, clinicians and other local health and social service providers who, in partnership with the HJC, are building a Health Equity Institute in the Lehigh Valley. Opportunities also exist to collaborate with faculty in the Health, Medicine and Society program in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Health Systems Engineering program in the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science, the Counselling Psychology program in the College of Education, the Health Economics area of concentration in the College of Business, as well as investigators in Lehigh’s new College of Health.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in public/population health, health services research, demography, sociology, psychology or a related field by the start of appointment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach one course during their two-year appointment.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a one-page statement of research interests. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and will continue until the position is filled. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2021.
