Associate in Research

Dr. Horstmeyer’s Computational Optics Lab at Duke University, Pratt School of Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering is looking for a highly motivated individual to help in the efforts related to the development of novel machine learning systems for optical image data analysis. The candidate will work with students in the lab to help them to build data annotation pipelines, create machine learning models with physical layers, and design evaluation strategies for multiple microscopy related projects in the lab. This will be a great opportunity for the candidate to gain experience in practical machine learning while also being exposed to a wide range of cross-disciplinary research.

The applicant must be detail-oriented, independent, proactive, well-organized, and able to manage multiple and changing priorities as needed to move experiments and the research program forward, in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a strong commitment to research and work ethic, and a positive attitude are required for this team-based position. The candidate must be able to follow instructions from the PI, set and achieve goals in a timely manner and function in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Requirements:

-An MS degree in a related field

-Excellent knowledge of basic programming concepts, data structures and algorithms

-Knowledge of core machine learning concepts, and convolutional neural networks

-Experience with Python and machine learning packages such as Pytorch and Tensorflow

-Research experience and prior publication will be a plus

-Knowledge of optical and embedded systems will be a plus
