The Robert J. Margolis, MD, Center for Health Policy at Duke University seeks to address critical health policy challenges and deliver practical, innovative, and evidence-based solutions to improve health and the value of health care. The interdisciplinary nature of Duke-Margolis brings together policy experts, researchers, health care professionals, and students from across Duke’s schools of medicine, nursing, law, public policy, business, and engineering, and fosters extensive relationships with stakeholders both internal and external. Duke-Margolis has an opening for a Policy Fellow, Digital Health, to develop and manage major components of the Center’s research and policy analysis related to digital health, including mHealth, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and digital health data. The Policy Fellow will interact regularly with external project sponsors and collaborators, including government agencies, public health organizations, medical product manufacturers, and health care organizations. The individual in this role will collaborate with Duke-Margolis leadership and manage the day-to-day implementation of multiple projects to ensure the successful execution of project objectives and the Center’s strategic goals. The Policy Fellow will take a lead role in collaborations to write policy white papers, policy memos, evidence-based procedural best practices, and other related policy deliverables. The Policy Fellow will take a lead role in convening relevant stakeholders around digital health policy issues such as the regulation and implementation of AI-enabled health software, use of mHealth for real-world data collection, and the regulation and reimbursement of digital therapeutics. The Policy Fellow will identify financial support and prepare grant proposals for the successful development, planning, and execution of these projects. 

The worksite for this position is the Duke-Margolis office (currently working virtually) in Washington, DC. This position will require approximately 10% travel between Duke-Margolis offices in Washington, DC and Durham, NC when appropriate after travel restrictions are lifted to collaborate across Center faculty and staff.

Education/Experience Requirements

• Minimum education/ work experience requirements:
• Advanced professional degree (e.g., PhD, MD, PharmD) in a relevant field and five or more years of relevant work experience OR
• Master’s degree with training in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., computer science, bioinformatics, engineering), policy area (e.g., health policy, health economics, public health), or other relevant field and 10 or more years of relevant work experience.
• Specialized experience in areas of digital health, such as digital health data collection or evaluation, mHealth, and/or AI-enabled health software.
• Work experience in fast-paced environment, preferably in a government or policy organization

Knowledge/Skills Requirements

• Record of impactful policy-relevant publications.
• Ability to travel 10% when appropriate (Duke travel is currently restricted).
