The Institute for Integrated Energy Systems (IESVic) is seeking to fill a postdoctoral position as an IESVic Fellow Research Coordinator (RC). The RC will use their knowledge and skills to support IESVic strategic initiatives through development, facilitation and execution of research activities.

Applying their expertise in energy system decarbonization, electrification, alternative fuels, policy, energy conversion, built environment, and behavior, the RC will work to accelerate the transition of the Canadian economy to a more sustainable future. Enabled by a forward-looking, philanthropic donation, this is a unique opportunity to be a thought-leader and team member, working on a critical global challenge.

Where you will work: The Institute for Integrated Energy Systems is a multidisciplinary research centre at the University of Victoria. IESVic is a collegial group of faculty, students, and staff working in a beautiful natural environment. For nearly three decades, the mission of the Institute has been to chart feasible pathways to sustainable energy systems. Our role is to create new insights, improve technology and systems, and train the next generation of change-makers. Our vision is to be a leader in the development of sustainable and high quality energy systems.

What you will do: As the IESVic Research Coordinator, you will use your proven analytic skills in energy and electrical systems to mobilize research. Working with outside agencies such as municipalities, industry, government and utilities, you will bridge the gap between internal research capacity and external needs. This includes collaborating with faculty to initiate and manage projects, prepare funding proposals, and communicate findings. You will build partnerships using your knowledge and communication skills to amplify the work of the centre. You will prepare written reports and manuscripts that are professionally formatted and concise. You will communicate activities to a broad range of stakeholders through social media and online platforms. Working with centre administrative staff and other members, you will support collaboration and knowledge mobilization activities such as workshops, meetings, conferences, and seminars. In addition to facilitating research, you will have the opportunity to develop new areas of activity using your unique skills.

What is required
 • PhD in a field related to energy systems and sustainability.
 • Experience with modeling and data management.
 • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
 • Strong organizational skills and time management.
 • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
 • Evidence of the desire, willingness, and ability to collaborate broadly.
 • Research experience in areas related to sustainability, energy conversion, electrical system planning and operation, built environment, transportation systems, hydrogen, water-energy-land nexus, carbon management, energy economics, policy, integrated assessment, and geospatial analysis.

 What is desired
 • Demonstrated experience working with non-academic partners such as government, industry, and NGOs.
 • Ability to work as an independent researcher with a high level of judgment and initiative.
 • Experience organizing conferences, workshops, seminars.
 • Ability to communicate research activities and impact to a broad audience.

Additional information
 • This is a full time, one year, postdoctoral appointment with the potential for renewal for three or more additional years.  Renewals are based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs.
 • Starting salary range is $70-80,000 depending on experience, with additional benefits (medical, dental, pension).
 • Work will primarily be performed at Engineering Office Wing, EOW 106, University of Victoria, BC, Canada.
 • Working at IESVic has many rewards, including a stunning natural environment, outstanding outdoor recreation, clean, safe and vibrant community, and a collegial team.
