We are seeking to fill one four-year postdoctoral researcher position in the area of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and Dark Matter<>.

The formal affiliation will be the Kavli IPMU. Established in 2007, the Kavli IPMU aims to discover the fundamental laws of nature and to understand the Universe by bringing together mathematicians, statisticians, theoretical and experimental physicists, and astronomers. English is the official language of the Kavli IPMU and more than half of its full-time scientific members come from outside of Japan. We are building a diverse community of scientists, and we strongly encourage female applicants.

The position is funded by the KAKENHI project, "Dark matter search using the cosmic microwave background" (20H05859, PI: Eiichiro Komatsu), which is the sub-group (Keikaku-Kenkyu) B06 under Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (A), "What is dark matter? - Comprehensive study of the huge discovery space in dark matter" (PI: Hitoshi Murayama).

The position is for four years until the end of March 2025. The appointment can start immediately after the selection of the candidate. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics or related areas by the starting date of the position.

The successful candidates will work closely with Prof. Eiichiro Komatsu (Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics / Kavli IPMU) and Dr. Maresuke Shiraishi (National Institute of Technology, Kagawa College).

The intended research projects include, but are not limited to, the impact of non-WIMP dark matter (such as axions, primordial black holes, vector and higher-spin fields) on polarization of the cosmic microwave background. Both theoretical and data-analysis oriented research projects are possible. No background in the dark matter or cosmic microwave background research is required.
