The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Temple University invites applications for a tenure-track (TT) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in geotechnical engineering. Preferred areas of research expertise, but not limited to, are: resiliency and durability of infrastructure systems; innovative use of geo-materials; and multi-scale computational modeling, including use of big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The department is particularly interested in applicants whose geotechnical research and teaching efforts are interdisciplinary with other areas of civil engineering, such as structural, pavement, and environmental engineering. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a related field and a record of excellent scholarly accomplishments. Priority will be given to applicants with post-doctoral experience and ability to get professional licensure. The successful candidates are expected to: (1) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in geotechnical engineering; (2) develop an active, externally-funded research program; (3) supervise doctoral and master’s students; and (4) engage in service activities with professional organizations and the university.

The Department hosts a National Science Foundation I/UCRC Water and Environmental Technology (WET) Center, and a number of industries and agencies are recent research sponsors. They include the NSF, various DOT’s, DoD, EPA, NOAA, NIH, PA DEP, PA DCED, EPRI, Philadelphia Water Department, and the Department also has a master services agreement with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
