Position Description:

*** this position has been closed and new applications are no longer accepted. ***

We are seeking to fill a three-year Project Assistant Professor position on the XENONnT experiment. <https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17749>

The Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU) is devoted to unraveling the deep mysteries of our Universe by creatively combining and applying the most advanced scientific methods available. On the experimental side of this effort probing the particle nature of Dark Matter with the most advanced direct detection liquid xenon experiments has been a priority right from the institute's inception. Today this has culminated in our participation in the upgrade of the successful XENON1T experiment to XENONnT, which is currently being commissioned in Italy at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS).

Kavli IPMU at the University of Tokyo is soliciting applications for a three year appointment starting April 1st 2021 as Project Assistant Professor at its Kamioka Branch, where our Dark Matter direct detection group is located. This particular position cannot be extended beyond the end of March 2024, even if employment starts later than on April 1st, 2021.
The position is funded by the KAKENHI project, "Direct search for dark matter with the most sensitive large target mass detector" (19H05805, co-PI: Kai Martens).

The successful applicant is expected to work full time on the XENONnT experiment and lead our XENONnT data analysis effort. As a member of the XENON collaboration she or he will also be expected to help support our hardware and take shifts onsite at the experiment at LNGS in Italy.
In exceptional cases a three year appointment at the Project Associate Professor level will be considered and be reflected in the remuneration.
The applicant should have a Ph.D. in physics.

The application should include CV, a research statement, a publication list, and at least five letters of reference.
They should be uploaded at “Application Form<https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17749/apply>” no later than January 15, 2021. (Applications have to be submitted through AcademicJobsOnline.org <https://academicjobsonline.org/>)

We seek to build a diverse, highly interactive membership. Female and international applicants are strongly encouraged.
