The Department of Biology at Mount Allison University invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Applied Quantitative Biology and Data Science. The appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on July 1, 2021, subject to budgetary approval. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. and have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research in the general area of Applied Quantitative Biology. The successful candidate will contribute to courses in Mount Allison’s newly launched inter-disciplinary Data Science program, and to both introductory and upper year courses in the Biology program within their areas of competence. We welcome candidates from a broad range of expertise including, but not limited to, bioinformatics, ecological modelling, or a related field. Candidates must provide evidence of ability to work in a collegial and student-centered environment.

The successful candidate is expected to launch an active and externally funded research program that integrates participation by undergraduate research students. The Biology department has an intensive research-based undergraduate honours program, and a graduate program at the M.Sc. level. Faculty have access to a range of internal and external funding opportunities. Mount Allison is surrounded by rich coastal habitats, close to salt marshes, the Bay of Fundy, and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with faculty within Biology and in cognate departments. Department members also benefit from strong collaborations with government agencies and local stewardship groups. Facilities on campus include the Harold Crabtree Aqualab, a small mammal research facility, a digital microscopy facility with fluorescent and SEM imaging, a greenhouse, communal molecular biology equipment, communal cell culture and biosafety level 2 facilities.
