Postdoctoral Researchers in Computational Materials Research, National Center for Theoretical Sciences, Taiwan

The Computational Materials Research (CMR) Thematic Group at the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS), Physics Division, Taiwan, invites applications for several Postdoctoral researchers in all areas of theoretical and computational Condensed Matter Physics. Applicants interested in the following research areas: 1) topological materials, 2) 2D materials, 3) strongly correlated materials, and 4) methods beyond DFT, are particularly welcome.

NCTS is a government-supported initiative to foster research in theoretical sciences by bringing together experts across institutions in Taiwan. The NCTS headquarters, together with the CMR Thematic Group, is located at National Taiwan University. Current members include Yang-hao Chan (ASIAMS), Tay-Rong Chang (NCKU), Feng-Chuan Chuang (NSYSU), Guang-Yu Guo (NTU), Horng-Tay Jeng (NTHU), and Hsin Lin (ASIOP). For further information, see the NCTS website.

The NCTS-CMR postdoctoral researcher will choose a topic from the list above, and will be assigned to one of the core members. The core member will act as the Mentor of the postdoctoral researcher. Further, the researchers are also encouraged to collaborate with other CMR members. Furthermore, the computational resources from the Mentor’s institutes will be available to the researcher, and they will also have access to the National Center for High-performance Computing.

The duration of appointment of NCTS postdoctoral researchers is normally for two years and are renewable for a third year, subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. The starting date can be as early as April 1, 2021 and is negotiable. The salary will be commensurate with the awardee’s research experience and is also negotiable. Moreover, moderate travel and research funds are available, and an economy class airfare will be supported for relocation. In addition, Taiwan provides excellent universal health insurance for local and foreign talents alike.

Applicants should have received or expect to complete a Ph.D. in physics, condensed matter physics, or any related field, by the start date. Applications should be made through the PD CMR NCTS call on https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/17846. The required documents include:

  1. a cover letter addressed to the CMR,
  2. a curriculum vitae,
  3. a summary of past and proposed research, and
  4. a publication list (including a Google Scholar link).

The research statement (3) should not exceed 5 pages including figures and references. Applicants should also arrange for three reference letters to be sent through the same website. All application documents received by 15 January 2021, 11:59 pm (Taipei time, UT+8) will be given full consideration. Applications submitted after Jan. 15, 2021 will also be considered until the positions have been filled.

NCTS is committed to an inclusive and supportive working environment that values equality and diversity. We encourage applicants who consider their background, personal characteristics, or career path to be underrepresented in academia.
