The Department of Biology at Duke University seeks applicants for the position of Instructor B for the Gateway to Biology: Molecular Biology lab sections. This course introduces major concepts in biology through the lens of molecular biology. Molecular mechanisms that comprise the Central Dogma and variants. DNA structure and function, replication, transcription, and translation. Protein synthesis, folding, structure and function. Supporting topics related to the structure of cells, metabolism and energetics. Integration of physical and quantitative principles to molecular biology. Relevance to human diseases and the biotechnology industry. Laboratory includes an intro- duction to recombinant DNA technology. The primary duty of the Instructor B position is to teach in-person lab sections during the spring semester. The duties include but are not limited to: attending course lectures three mornings per week; providing instruction and supervision for students in your assigned sections during the scheduled lab periods; participating in weekly prep sessions and staff meetings; assisting with the preparation and grading of lecture quizzes and midterm and final exams; grading the written and oral assignments of students in your sections; and meeting with students during office hours outside of scheduled class time. The Instructor B is expected to teach two to three lab sections during the semester, depending upon class enrollment. The salary is $7400 per section taught per semester. The successful candidate will have at least a Masters Degree in Biology or closely related discipline and some teaching experience.
