Postdoctoral Fellow in Epigenome Editing Therapies for Human Disease

An opening for a postdoctoral fellowship position focused on epigenome editing-based therapy for human diseases is immediately available in the Gersbach Lab at Duke University, Pratt School of Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering (http://gersbach.bme.duke.edu). We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with expertise in epigenetics, cell and molecular biology, genetics, and other relevant areas of biomedical sciences. The project will aim to investigate the development of a gene therapy for inherited human disease using CRISPR/dCas9-based epigenome editing tools for targeted and stable gene expression reprogramming, high-throughput genetic screening, and modeling of human disease using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs).

The successful applicant will lead projects on identifying causal molecular mechanisms for initiation and inheritance of gene expression at human disease-related loci, identifying epigenetic mechanisms governing the dynamics of gene expression reprogramming, and developing a targeted approach using CRISPR/dCas9-based epigenome technologies for persistent gene expression reprogramming. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in genome and epigenome editing; CRISPR-based disease modeling; protein engineering; and/or high-throughput genetics, genomics, or epigenetics studies. The postdoctoral fellow will work with a collaborative and interdisciplinary team of faculty, postdoctoral associates, graduate and undergraduate students conducting research and training on human gene regulation and gene therapy. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, participate in conferences for the intellectual exchange of research ideas, engage in existing and new collaborations within and outside Duke University, and assist with training of undergraduate and graduate students, as needed. The training environment of the Gersbach group is highly interdisciplinary and provides ample opportunities for scientific growth and pursuit of both academic and industry careers. Applicants must have completed their doctoral degree and have documented experience in one or more areas described above. The ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated and will also have a demonstrated track record of scientific productivity, for example via published manuscripts and/or fellowship funding; experience analyzing data from high-throughput biological experiments; and is excited to work in a highly collaborative and multi-disciplinary research environment. This position includes annual support with an NIH award-level salary, and Duke University employee benefits (https://www.hr.duke.edu/benefits/).

Regularly ranked among the best research institutions in the US, Duke University offers an outstanding research environment and world class training programs. The laboratory is located within the beautiful Duke University west campus, in Durham North Carolina. The research program associated with this project will provide exposure to cutting-edge science and technologies in the areas of genetics, gene therapy, stem cell biology, and human disease that will be greatly valuable to diverse areas of academic research and biotechnology.
