Carnegie Mellon University
McWilliams Center for Cosmology
Since the establishment of the McWilliams Center in 2008, three new cosmology faculty members have been hired. The Center has an endowment for support of several McWilliams Postdoctoral Fellows, of which there are currently four. Carnegie Mellon has become an institutional member of SDSS-III, BigBOSS, and LSST. Center faculty are also involved in the ACT, HSC, and Planck experiments, and engaged in the nascent field of using new types of radio telescopes to explore the universe using the 21 cm radiation of neutral Hydrogen. Faculty members in the Center have taken leadership roles in the newly formed LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration. Computing facilities have been established both within the Center and a 1000+ core cluster in collaboration with Computer Science which is undergoing a major upgrade. Please visit the Center’s website at www.cmu.edu/cosmology for more details.
We seek candidates with significant accomplishments and promise for further achievement in exploring theoretically or experimentally the nature of dark matter and dark energy. Successful candidates are encouraged to enhance links between the Department of Physics and the School of Computer Science and the Department of Statistics at Carnegie Mellon, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, and the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh.
The anticipated starting date is September 2013
