The Macalester College Biology Department invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the area of Neurobiology to begin Fall 2021 for the 2021-2022 academic year.

We seek candidates who will have completed a Ph.D. in Neurobiology and/or related fields. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. The teaching load includes an introductory, required Cell Biology course along with three to four additional courses at the middle and upper levels of the curriculum aimed at Biology and Neuroscience majors, including pre-health students. These upper level teaching responsibilities will depend on the candidate’s expertise and interests.

We seek applicants with enthusiasm for working with a diverse student population, and we welcome applicants who are interested in engaging undergraduates in their research program. Salary and benefits are competitive. The successful applicants will have access to laboratory space in the Biology Department.

To apply, electronically submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter that addresses potential courses or areas the candidate can comfortably teach, contact information for 3 professional references, and a statement on diversity, equity, and inclusion (see below) to Academic Jobs Online. Evaluation of applications will begin February 1, 2021 and continue until the positions are filled.

Macalester is committed to student, faculty and staff diversity, equity, and inclusion. We strongly encourage applications from candidates with a record of experience or demonstrated commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first generation college graduates. In addition to the materials noted above, applicants should also submit a statement on diversity, equity, and inclusion (no longer than 2 pages) that discusses how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Macalester’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and their future plans to teach and mentor students who represent diverse backgrounds, perspectives and abilities.
