The Department of Physics at The University of Winnipeg invites outstanding candidates to apply for a tenure-track appointment in theoretical high energy physics at the rank of Assistant Professor. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Physics or a related field at the time of appointment, as well as postdoctoral research experience. Candidates should have an outstanding record of research and publication in theoretical high energy physics broadly defined. All applicants in theoretical high energy physics will be considered, but we are especially interested in candidates whose research complements or augments existing research efforts in the department with highest preference for those who provide synergy with our ongoing high energy theory program.

The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate courses at all levels, will develop an independent, innovative, externally-funded research program, and will meaningfully contribute to departmental, university, and other professional service. Candidates with a strong publication record and a high potential to attract Tri-Agency or other sources of external research funding are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching physics in general and will play an active role in the supervision of both graduate and undergraduate student research. We desire a candidate with the ability to teach quantum field theory; the ability to teach general relativity is preferred but not essential. A strong interest in science outreach and advocacy is also an asset.

The selection committee will begin reviewing applications on March 1, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled; full consideration is assured for applications received by February 26, 2021. Subject to budgetary approval, this position will commence July 1, 2021. Salary levels will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Applicants must submit all of the above materials through The University of Winnipeg’s online recruitment system (https://www.northstarats.com/University-of-Winnipeg).

Theorists in the department are also members of the Winnipeg Institute for Theoretical Physics. Faculty members supervise graduate students through adjunct professorial arrangements with the University of Manitoba, The University of Winnipeg’s Master of Science in Bioscience, Technology and Public Policy Program, and/or Master of Science in Applied Computer Science and Society. High energy theory research in the department includes efforts in string theory, strongly coupled gauge theories, and beyond Standard Model physics. Faculty also conduct research in experimental subatomic physics, medical physics, and computational science.
