Visiting Position Available:
Assistant Professor of Physics

The Physics Group at Roanoke College invites applications for a visiting appointment at the rank of either Instructor (ABD) or Assistant Professor (PhD), starting in August 2021.  Visiting positions are one-year appointments but may be renewable for up to two additional years.  Successful candidates must have a strong interest in teaching a wide range of undergraduate physics courses and also contributing to the College’s general education program; evidence of, or potential for, highly effective classroom teaching is required.  Candidates should also display a strong interest and capacity for collaborative student research.  Our program is a growing community of learners who value relationship and hands-on application, and we are looking for colleagues to share this vision and also to bring new ideas, energy, and expertise.

Roanoke College is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA), located in the beautiful Roanoke Valley of Virginia.  A Phi Beta Kappa institution, Roanoke College is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks diversity among its faculty, staff, and students.  Women and members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.  We also seek candidates with interests in mentoring under-represented students, diversifying curricular offerings, or sponsoring diverse community engagement.

To apply, submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, statement of potential mentored research with evidence and/or examples of potential projects, copies of unofficial graduate and undergraduate transcripts, and arrange for three letters of recommendation (at least one must address teaching) to be submitted.

Applicants are asked to address their potential contributions in support of a diverse community in their cover letters. All items should be addressed to Dr. Daniel Robb, Chair of the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics at Roanoke. All completed applications received by February 28, 2021 will be given full consideration, and applications received afterwards will be considered on a rolling basis.
