Description:

Thanks to the remarkable recognition it has earned from both novel industry collaborations and honors from professional societies, the Cornell Systems Program is undergoing a period of significant growth. As a result, the Systems Engineering program is seeking applicants for new faculty positions to expand our efforts in areas that include, but are not limited to, systems engineering, software systems, cyberphysical systems, systems of systems, enterprise systems, and human-systems interaction. These new positions are open-rank, long-term, full-time, on-campus, non-tenure-track positions that can be focused on teaching, research, or a combination of both. Examples of titles based upon experience could range from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer, or Professor of Practice. Additionally, we also welcome applicants interested in part time positions that could last from 1 week to 1-2 courses per year while potentially working remotely. Applicants should indicate the range of engagement opportunities they are interested in within their cover letter.

Unlike traditional programs, the Systems Engineering Program does not have full-time tenure track appointments. Therefore, all core faculty are central to the development of the program and can be fully involved in all strategic and operational decisions.

As a full member of the Systems core faculty, the individuals selected for this position will be expected to contribute to our educational mission through teaching, or at least contributing to, a small number of well-developed graduate-level courses, advising graduate level systems projects as well as collaborate on the development and innovation of the master’s and doctoral curriculum. As with all faculty, individuals may also participate in advising on-campus and professional distance-learning students as well as creating and advising multi-semester, real-world student projects. This work may also dovetail with research efforts, but this is not required, and is based upon applicants’ interests and abilities.

Overall, the Cornell Systems Engineering program has been recognized as a world leader in Systems Engineering education and research while priding itself on developing deep relationships with industry to meet their ever-evolving needs. As some examples of our uniqueness, growth, our Systems Engineering program has been selected by industry partners such as Lockheed Martin to deliver the Systems Engineering education for their largest Engineering Leadership Development Program, honored by INCOSE for having the first experience in the world recognized as Associate Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP) knowledge exam equivalent, earned support for national centers such as the creation of the Center for Transportation, Environment, and Community Health (CTECH), and now hosts the fastest growing and largest MEng program at Cornell, which is among the largest Systems Engineering MEng programs in the world.

Applicants should include a brief cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, and contact information for at least three references. In addition, a candidate can optionally include a research statement, and/or potential brief course descriptions or syllabi of courses they might be interested in teaching.

Applications should be submitted online at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/program/18010. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until all the positions are filled. We expect to conduct a round of short introductory interviews starting in September 2021, via Zoom, and final all-day on-campus/virtual interviews starting in October 2021. The search for these positions will remain open until they all have been filled.
