The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for two (2) teaching stream tenure-track positions in computer science at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, to commence on or after July 1, 2021. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

One position is focused on the teaching of first-year courses, including those offered as a service to other units.  Responsibilities include the coordination of multi-section introductory courses and development of experiential learning materials.

The second position is concentrated on teaching the theory of computer science and security, including subjects such as Discrete Math, Logic, Data Structures, Algorithms, Complexity, and Theory of Computation.

Both positions provide creative educational leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation. Graduate teaching may be possible for those appointed to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Candidates should have by the start date a PhD in Computer Science (or closely related field) or a Master’s degree in Computer Science (or closely related field) along with a doctorate focusing on higher education pedagogy (such as Ed.D).

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses through: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success and demonstrate good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching. Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.
