The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for a professorial stream tenure-track appointment in Interactive Systems or Human Computer Interaction at the rank of Assistant Professor, to commence on or after July 1, 2021. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

A PhD in computer science or other closely related field is required by the start date, with a demonstrated record of excellence or promise of excellence in research and in teaching.

Applicants should have a clearly articulated program of Human-Computer Interaction research, with a focus on human-centered computing that is contextualized in its social and cultural milieu. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in value-based approaches to HCI (e.g., participatory design, emancipatory design, value-sensitive design, etc.), and in emerging modes of HCI knowledge production (as connected to the epistemological shifts within HCI, such as critical technical practice, intersectional approaches, standpoint approaches). The successful candidate will have a clearly articulated program of research that demonstrates the application of these expertise and approaches, in research area(s) such as: ubiquitous and pervasive computing; ambient interfaces; tangible embedded, and embodied Interaction; collaboration, learning, and communication systems; or affective interfaces. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence or the promise of excellence in interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary approaches to research and/or teaching.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence or promise of excellence, as demonstrated by, for example: the research statement; a record of publications in significant journals in the field; presentations at major conferences; awards and accolades; and recommendations from referees of high standing. The position will involve graduate teaching and supervision and the successful candidate must be suitable for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

Evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching the core courses in our undergraduate digital media program will be provided through such means as: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education and technology enhanced learning; teaching evaluations; and letters of reference.
