INTRODUCTION

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track position of Lecturer, or Assistant Professor-in-Residence at the Stamford campus. The successful candidate will primarily contribute to the department’s teaching program.

This position is for the new and dynamic program in computer science on the Stamford campus. It is specifically geared to Stamford and Fairfield County. This area has one of the world’s highest standards of living as well as a strong industrial base. There are opportunities for curricular design and engagement with regional industry. A successful hire will have significant opportunities to help shape the program. We expect to develop several concentration areas complementing the main department in Storrs. The initial focus area for the search is mobile computing and software engineering. However, exceptional candidates in any other areas of Computer Science & Engineering are also encouraged to apply. 

The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate level, development of innovative courses and mentoring of students in research, outreach and professional development.

The successful candidate will also be expected to enhance inclusion and broaden participation among members of under-represented groups, as demonstrated through their teaching, possible research, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates at the Lecturer level must have an earned Master’s degree in computing sciences or related field. At the Assistant Professor in Residence level, candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in computing sciences or related field by the time of appointment; and must have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and enhancing inclusion as proven through their academic and research programs. Candidates for Lecturer and Assistant Professor in Residence must have a proven record of potential in teaching.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Expertise in several areas of computer science and outstanding record of teaching and scholarship; commitment to effective teaching and use of innovative techniques; the ability to effectively communicate with students in both large and small audiences; the ability to contribute through research, teaching, and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, annually renewable non-tenure track position with the possibility of subsequent annual academic-year reappointment, contingent on positive reviews and program funding, and may lead to a multi-year appointment. Employment is conditional upon the timely completion of an approved I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification Form). Candidates must be able to begin work on August 23, 2021.
